1st Battalion Coldstream Guards
St George's Day, Sat 23rd
April 2005
St George's Day is a day celebrated by the Coldstream Guards
no matter where we are stationed.
The Rear Party celebrated the event on Fri 22nd with a low key
event with a 'few tinnies and a roast beef butty', together with
a showing of 'King Arthur', with interval quotations from
Winston Churchill. Many guests were invited to the event
and it was an ideal time for the Rear Party to 'let their hair
down' before mounting their next (of many) 48hr guard.
The Welfare Office organised the major event on Saturday
23rd April, featuring a pageant,
a children's meal and children's entertainment. The day
was organised with children in mind and was a great success.
The pageant starred;
LSgt 'Barney' Courage as
the Dragon LSgt 'Ian' Scholan as the
Damsel in Distress
and St George played by
Gdsm 'Shaun' Crapper.
Everyone enjoyed the pageant, but children were a little
frightened by the dragon (that was before Barney put the costume
head on), but the pageant finished off as usual with a glorious
triumph of St George over the dragon. Children were then
invited downstairs into the Restaurant were a meal was laid on
for all of them. After that it was back upstairs for
entertainment.
All in all, the first of many organised events for families left
behind in Aldershot - with many more to come!!
