THE QUARTERMASTERS DEPARTMENT
VICTORIA BARRACKS, WINDSOR, 2006
With the cancellation of Exercise Grand Prix (Kenya) the thought of a steady
2006 was shortly lived. The hole in the forecast of events was soon filled
with numerous exercises to keep the department on its toes with the
procurement of equipment vital to the success of the exercises.
The wives weekend on Hawley Common saw WO2 (RQMS) P Downes, WO2 (TQMS) N
Hicks, SSgt Hewart (Master Chef) and LSgt Arundel (Chef) committed to the
setting up, administration and the closing down of Camp Attitude. Someone
was overheard saying that the amount of tentage and equipment used was far
more than that used by 12 Mechanised Brigade Headquarters!
The Battalion Football Team – Player/Manager Capt A Jasinski was badly
injured breaking both his tibia and fibula during a training session (the
lengths some people will go to get out of Commanding Officers PT). Four
weeks down the line and two operations later we now realize the seriousness
of his injury. In an attempt to keep his mind active the TQMS sends
everything classed as too difficult down to his make shift Ops Room set up
in his dining room somewhere in the deepest darkest depths of Somerset! We
all wish him a speedy recovery.
Moving on from a MAJOR sport to a minor and safer one, the Battalion Golf
Day held on Friday 3 Nov 06 at was a great success. Well supported by
members of the Quartermasters Department, best team stableford score went to
Sgt Walton’s and best gross score went to the Major Hall.
Finally we take this opportunity to say farewell to LSgt Dean Goubert having
served 22 years with the Colours and during that time his last 5 years in
the Quartermasters Department. We wish both him and his family all the best
in the future.

DAYS OUT AT JAMIE OLIVERS FIFTEEN RESTAURANT
With the introduction of “Pay as you dine” in the near future our military
chefs will have to work more in line with the styles of catering in civilian
restaurants.
With this in mind, a deal has been struck with Jamie Olivers Fifteen
restaurant and the Dorchester Hotel to send our chefs on short placements
for work experience.
During October LSgt Arundel and LCpl Brewer went to central London to work
in Jamie Olivers restaurant for a couple of days. They both enjoyed the
experience and came back with some new ideas.
Since there return the catering department has been running a Ready Steady
Cook competition with several members of the battalion judging the outcome
of the heats. This is culminating in a final due to be held at the end of
November with some surprise assistants.
