Description - So what's a Guardsman do?
Show your colours and stand out!
As a Guardsman you will be first and foremost an Infantry Soldier, trained to the highest standards in the use
of modern weapons and equipment available to the Army. A Guardsman is required to help keep the peace by acting in support of a police force, or working for the Untied Nations, patrol in the jungle & desert and fight conventional wars on today's modern battlefield - the Battalion have recently returned from operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. You will receive special training as part of a close-knit man team before deploying on any operations with your Battalion. You are personal bodyguards of HM The Queen and have the privilege of guarding the Royal Palaces in London and Windsor, taking part in major State Ceremonial Duties such as Trooping the Colour, The State Opening of Parliament and State Visits.

Conditions of Work:

Being a Guardsman your routine will be frequently arduous and exhausting, both physically and mentally. This will involve work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, but remember becoming the best in never easy. Your service can be in any part of the world in all extremes of climate. Remember, that after all you are an Infantryman trained for anything, anywhere in the world. When in London, periods will be spent on Ceremonial Duties in the public eye and often in the presence of members of The Royal Family, including of course, HM The Queen.

Special Requirements:

A high standard of pride, smartness and self-discipline is required. Can you fit the bill and be "Second to None"?
A good standard of physical fitness will be required prior to application, with the ability to cope with a wide range of frequently changing tasks. Why not have a look at the suggested training program
(by clicking here).
You are about to embark  to join one of the most highly respected well-known Regiments in the World, where no two days will be the same ........ GUARANTEED.

The Bad Points:
With every job in the life, there will bad points remember without the bad we cannot have the good. Our bad points are that you will have to leave your family behind when serving on unaccompanied tours, (but you will be with your new family The Coldstream Guards). You will be required to work long and irregular hours on operations and exercises, (but team spirit always prevails). There will be  high standards of Battle Discipline to be maintained no matter what, (but this makes us Second to None, in everything we do).

Prospects:
There are approximately two hundred (200) Non Commissioned Officers and fifteen (15) Warrant Officers in Battalion, with the pinnacle of any Guardsmans career "The Regimental Sergeant Major". The chances of promotion are very good, but it's down to you!

Civilian Recognition:

NVQ Level 1 is available free to all Class 3 Combat Infantrymen with promotion. NVQ's up to Level 4 can be attained. You will also be given education allowance, this means money is given to you to pay for further education in a number of subjects.

Look at Life Course:
The Coldstream Guards offer a 4 day Residential Course at NO COST to you.

This course allows you a look at the Army, spending 4 days away to see for yourself, if you've got what it takes to be "Second to None". More information can be gained about look at life by getting in touch with the Regimental Recruiting Team (WOII 'Mack' McWilliams) on
07712 171 832.

Miscellaneous:

On successful completion of Training, you are likely to be posted to either an Incremental Company currently based in London (7 Company), taking part in Ceremonial Duties or posted to the First Battalion Coldstream Guards, who have just returned from a two year accompanied operational tour in Northern Ireland and are now based in Aldershot. Joining the Battalion you will take initially part in Internal Security Operations. In Battalion we are one of the first Regiments to trialling the future equipment needed to propel the Infantryman into this new century. This is commonly known as "FIST", why not visit your nearest Recruiting Office and ask to watch the video to see if the "Future Soldier" interests you!

During training, candidates may opt to train as Drummers, learning the fife, bass & side drum and bugle to enable them to take their place in the Battalion Corps of Drums. In Battalion, the Corps of Drums are also the SF and Assault Pioneer Platoon.

Our Motto:
The Motto for the Coldstream Guards is "Nulli Secundus", this means SECOND TO NONE, and we are! ....... Are you?
