Number 3 Company Pre Deployment Training (from September 3rd)

After a month of summer and pre-deployment leave, the men of Number 3 Company returned to work on the 3rd of September. It was just over a month until our deployment date to Afghanistan and some invaluable time to spend on more training. Most of September has been spent on the ranges and the training areas of the south west honing our skills and drills.

Our first week back from leave saw us completing the Army’s annual training tests to make sure all the ‘boxes had been ticked’ prior to our departure. Navigation, fitness and shooting were all tested.

Week two took us to South Wales and the unofficial home of all Infantrymen, Brecon. Although the weather was milder than normal, the training was not. Some hard live firing ranges put us through our paces and reminded us how lung-busting being our job can be.

Most of week three was spent on Hankley Common and in Longmoor Village practising section and platoon level skills. The week was well spent with everyone working well achieving everything we could from the training.

The final week of September meant more time on the ranges and some much needed time for administration. These ranges allowed us to do some night firing and firing at moving targets. “Time spent in administration is seldom wasted”…if supervised correctly. This was certainly the case for us with the Platoon Sergeants making the most of the time to sort out a few final bits and bobs before we leave.

Deployment is now only a week away and everyone is making the most the time with loved ones and relaxing as much as possible before what will be six months of hard work. We would once again like to thank all our loved ones for the unending patience and support during what has been a tough training period. You will always be in our thoughts no matter where in the world we land up.
