Families
and Welfare - The Fax Bluey System
With today’s modern technology and advances the old ‘bluey’
is not the only way to communicate with loved ones overseas. You
should be aware of e-blueys and fax-blueys but if you’re not,
read on.
E-Bluey
E-Bluey is a two way service for friends and family and service
personnel on operations to send letters to each other via the
internet.
It
is a service that you must register to before use.
An informative guide to signing up
for an ebluey account and sending an ebluey is shown below.
Click here to read it, or scroll down the page.
You can also visit the BFPO ebluey site by
clicking here.
Fax-Blueys

This is the way forward in our eyes (the eyes of the Welfare
Office Staff) being a super simplistic way to send a message
over to theatre.
How it works:
1. You write (or get the kids to draw a picture) on a fax-bluey
(you can do this at home).
2. You bring it into the Welfare Office and place it in the fax-bluey.
You press the location button on the screen.
3. The fax bluey is then scanned and sent to the location that
you selected, and is delivered within seconds!
4. Once received it is downloaded, printed, sealed and ready for
collection – with no human contact involved in the process.
Please note, we guarantee (communications permitting) that the
fax bluey is received in theatre with seconds. We cannot however
guarantee the time frame that the fax-bluey will be delivered to
the soldier (dependent on location).

Please find
below detailed instructions on how to open an e-bluey
account, create an address book, write and send an e-bluey and
download the Quick Letter Writer program.
In addition to the instructions we have an extensive list of
frequently asked questions (FAQs) listed at
http://www.bfpo.org.uk/ebluey_faq_page.htm
OPENING AN e-bluey ACCOUNT AND CREATING
YOUR ADDRESS BOOK
The first time you use the service you will need to open an
account. To do this you will require an e-mail address! The
e-mail address you currently use will work fine however If you
do not have an e-mail address, read on and open an e-mail
address with Yahoo at Step 1 below.
If at any stage you experience a problem e-mail us at
bfpoebluey@yahoo.co.uk
for assistance.
Begin by logging on to
www.bfpo.org.uk, clicking onto the e-bluey logo at the top
of the page (above the purple bar) and then clicking on ‘New E-bluey
Account’.
You will now be required to complete the following eight-step
registration process, which should only take a few minutes.
Step 1: Enter YOUR e-mail address.
Step 2: Read and accept our Terms and Conditions for use.
Step 3: Select the option based on where YOU live.
Step 4: Select YOUR country or BFPO number.
Step 5: Enter YOUR address details.
Step 6: Select the BFPO number or Country you wish to write to.
Step 7: Enter the details of the person you wish to write to.
Step 8: Your account is now registered but the account is not
yet ‘validated’. Close the account and go the e-mail inbox of
the e-mail address you entered at Step 1. There you should see
an e-mail from Superletter.com. Open this and click on the link
‘Click Here to Continue Creating Your New Account’. Enter your
e-mail address and the password you entered at Step 5.
Your account is now ready for use. A few new users do experience
problems receiving the validation e-mail from Superletter.com.
If you have not received this within 2 hours e-mail us at
bfpoebluey@yahoo.co.uk and we will manually validate your
account. This validation is required to ensure that you have
entered a working, valid e-mail address.
WRITING AND SENDING AN E-BLUEY
To write an e-bluey, just click on the small check box to the
left-hand side of the recipient’s name, in your address book,
and click on ‘Compose E-bluey’. If you have multiple recipients
you can send the same letter to any or all these recipients by
clicking on each check box.
Write your letter and click on ‘continue’. You will then be
required to review your letter, and if satisfied with the
contents, click on ‘Send Letter Now’. If you wish to change your
letter click on ‘back’ in the top left hand corner of the screen
and amend your letter and then click on “Send Letter Now”
again..
Once sent the letter will sit on our server until printed,
normally within 24 hours. When printed the letter will be both
printed and folded automatically ensuring the contents remain
confidential. See below to learn how to check the status of your
letters.
The Forces Postal Service will deliver the letters at BFPO
locations overseas and Royal Mail will deliver letters in the UK
and the Bundespost in Germany.
Anyone wishing to write to the UK is required to select BFPO
777.
E-blueys can not to be sent to civilian addresses outside of the
UK or Germany,
commercial organisations i.e. banks, building societies, etc. E-blueys
sent to the UK are downloaded in London at 1500 Hrs each working
day. They are then handed to Royal Mail at about 1530 Hrs, with
the vast majority of them being delivered the following day. See
below to learn about a commercial pay service available for
delivery in some countries.
The cost of using the E-bluey site and the cost of UK postage is
paid by the MoD, so no charges fall to the sender or recipient.
Please note that this is not an email service and the only
person requiring a PC is the sender, the recipient actually
receives a physical letter.
DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING THE QUICK
LETTER WRITER
To assist you with writing your e-blueys and saving them on your
PC we have developed a small software application, Quick Letter

To ensure you are familiar with the operation of the QLW we
suggest you write and save a short letter, send this and then
check on the ‘Delivery Status’ link to ensure your letter has
been sent to the server.
ACCOUNT FEATURES
There are three features in your account software worth
mentioning now:
Delivery Status. By clicking on this link in the top right hand
corner of your e-bluey account and then clicking on ‘View
Report’ you will be able to see if and when your letters have
been printed and forwarded for delivery.
Clock. Above the delivery status link there is a time link. If
you click on this and adjust the time to match the local time
where you live then each letter you write will contain a two
line entry showing both the date and time you actually sent the
letter.
Trade Partners. To enhance the service we provide we have
included trade partner links. To the right of each recipient, in
your address book, you will see a link for a trade partner. By
clicking on a particular link you will be able to send cards,
flowers or a gift box containing various ‘goodies’ to that
recipient.
Pay Bluey. For addresses not served by the British Forces e-Bluey,
there is a link in your e-Bluey account to the Pay Bluey
commercial service that allows letters to be sent to civilian
addresses in 5 countries.
E-Bluey Uses High Level Internet Security
The E-bluey site uses "Bank Level" security. Internet Security
Firewalls, Networks and Pop Up Eliminators may require special
configuration.Because there are so many combinations and
versions of internet security software, BFPO Customer Care
cannot advise you or support you in configuring your PC under
those conditions.
Your privacy and security settings must be configured to
"Medium" and "Session Cookies" must be enabled. If you have
problems logging-in please check you security settings and make
sure you delete all cookies.
