you sent an image to us and it doesn't appear on the site please
make sure of the following points before contacting us:

c. That the image does not appear on the 'Scrap Book' section of
the Image Board (if it does not fall into a specific category).

Coldstream/ShinyCapstar
News for APRIL 2006
*HUGE UPDATE*
|
>>
Update
News:
Well, it's been a long time coming - finally
ShinyCapstar has been updated with loads of new info, images,
facts and other bits and bobs. As all will know, the Battalion
have just moved from Aldershot to Windsor, a change from mucky
'combat boots' to shiny 'drill boots'.
Included in the updates are some very interesting reads.
ShinyCapstar, in conjunction with the Regimental Recruiting Team
are proud to announce that you will find the last three editions
of the 'Second to None' Regimental Recruiting Newsletter on
line, with other editions being uploaded once produced. You will
find out more on the Second to None newsletter below. Below you
will also find some information on what the Battalion will be
'getting up to' in the next year, some of the adventurous
training will be under Company arrangements.
|
>>
The Message Board:
If you didn't know already, this site features an
active message board for all to use. On the recent Armsplot to
Windsor it was highlighted to us that the message board was
being inundated by SPAM, although there was little that could be
done as the guy Team administering ShinyCapstar (ME), was moving
as part of the move and all the 'kit' I needed was 'packed' -
plus it's a little hard to do anything with no internet access!
To hopefully protect the board from spam, everyone will need to
register an account before they can post. One section of the
board is open for 'anyone' and that is the section if you have
problems (i.e if you have a problem with your account then you
cannot log in to post a message!). This section will 'no doubt'
be SPAMMED beyond control - but we will keep on top of this now!
To all those that persevered with ShinyCapstar during our move -
thank you, and to show our support enjoy the updates.
To those that sent those 'rude' emails and posts on the message
board (you know who you are!), I'm sorry that the site didn't
live up to your expectations but please don't let us stop you
browsing some other corner of the internet, and if you feel as
though you never want to visit again just let us know, with one
ping you'll be banned 'totally' from the site (along with the
spammers)!

Internet
News
- Stories relating to the Coldstream Guards, that are
found on the internet.
Title:
Youngsters on Guard
Found at: This is the West Country
Site Address:
http://www.thisisthewestcountry.co.uk/display.var.716908.0.youngsters_on_guard.php
A GROUP of lads from Cornwall are falling in together and
joining one of the Army's oldest and prestigious regiments the
Coldstream Guards.
The youngsters, Matthew Cutting, aged 23, originally from South
Africa, now living in Falmouth, Mikael Nippard, aged 16, from
Redruth, Ben Ambrose, aged 17, from Falmouth, Jonathan Lenny,
aged 16 from Camborne, Richard Payne, aged 21 from Newquay, and
Andrew Richards, aged 21, from Camborne, all took the Queen's
shilling at Redruth Recruiting Office.
Major Dennis Stone, who heads up Army recruiting in the area,
had the job of witnessing each new recruit as they took their
Oath of Allegiance, which sees them formally accepted into the
Army.
After passing entrance and recruitment selection tests, all six
men will begin their Army training next week, when they travel
to the infantry training centre (ITC) in Catterick.
Unusually, all six of them will be joining the infantry
regiment, the Coldstream Guards. After 26 weeks of basic
military training, they will be fully trained soldiers, ready to
serve with their regiment.
Sergeant Beau Taylor, a Redruth Army recruiter, who is also a
member of the Coldstream Guards said: "I am delighted to be
welcoming more recruits into the Army, especially this many in
one go. It is really important that young people recognise the
challenges that an Army career has to offer, including the many
adventure and sporting opportunities available.
"The Army is a great way to gain a wide range of skills and meet
lots of new people as well as offering excellent opportunities
to travel all over the world.
"New recruits are not expected to be at the peak of physical
fitness or have all the necessary attributes when they join, but
they must be willing to take on the challenge.
"The Army provide all the time and access to the facilities
needed for soldiers to develop both physically and mentally
during their initial training and throughout their career,
giving them valuable personal and professional skills that they
can continue to use when they decide to leave."
The Coldstream Guards are the oldest regiment in the Army in
continuous active service, originating in 1650 when Oliver
Cromwell founded a regiment for the then Colonel George Monck.
The Coldstream Guards infantry regiment are part of the Guards
Division.

Basrah Bulletin
(September LAST EDITION): The
last edition of the Basrah Bulletin did eventually get published
but due to a 'Technical Error' no electronic copy was saved.
The only copy of the Bulletin that ShinyCapstar got hold of

probably was!). This was unfortunately not in a good
enough condition to make a scan. So, apologies for anyone
waiting for the last edition but it 'won't' be available online!
We can assure you that any messages that were submitted to us
(in time) for the bulletin did go in, and were read by the
individuals they were meant for (if they can read!).

There has been a slight delay in updating the website due to
work commitments and getting the Battalion out to IRAQ.

because it may not seem as though there are a lot of updates at

As soon as we get
'suitable' material for the site we'll stick it straight on, but
please bear in mind most information is 'restricted' and IS NOT
suitable for ShinyCapstar.
So, because the updates are far and few between we will be
adding more features to ShinyCapstar such as a PC HELP section

section (which will show and list all the equipment - weapons,

Update News:
Appologies for the late update to ShinyCapstar, but what with a
change in jobs and the pending 'arrivals' to the family things
are quite hectic at the moment! For all that don't know -
myself and 'Mrs ShinyCapstar' are soon to have a couple of
additions to the family, 'twins'. They should be here
around the end of December!
>>
Website News:
Again, ShinyCapstar is doing well on the hits front. Our
Bandwidth had to be extended because of the amount of hits it is
receiving, ShinyCapstar was actually shut down for a few days at
the end of November (sorry for all those that it affected).

Farewell Dinner to the
Regimental Sergeant Major:
The Sergeants Mess said Farewell to WO1 (RSM) & Mrs KR
Cheesbrough in true Coldstream fashion recently. The
function was a combined Regimental Dinner/Xmas Ball. The
function organisers (WOII 'Decker' Donaghy & WOII 'Andy' James),
should be congratulated on there tremendous effort, without
forgetting the 'behind the scenes' people who never get the
credit they deserve (Chefs, Mess Staff, THE MARQUEE TEAM, and
all that helped).

Officers V's
Sergeants Mess Football: Again, the two teams clashed -
frost on the ground, a wind chill in the air . . . . . but it
still didn't deter the Sergeants Mess from a 'Glorious' triumph
against the Officers Mess!
Final Score
(no thanks to Jacko 'butterfingers'
Jackson)
was 4 -2 to the
Sergeants Mess.

Xmas Cake Comp /
Gdsm's Christmas Lunch:
One of the busiest days in December, the morning saw the
Christmas Cakes Competition, whilst the afternoon saw the annual
'FOOD FIGHT', sorry Christmas Lunch. The best quote from
the day "Well, what do you expect if you give them all a mice
pie?"

Update News:
Another apology for the late update to the website but I have
just been returned from a course, which (before anyone asks) did
involve 'Swans' - the feathered, not the bluffing kind (for all
those lingo in Squaddie Speak).
>>
Website News:
Latest news on the website front is that ShinyCapstar is
receiving tremendous hits world-wide! (a big thank you to all
of you who e-mail). In October alone the hits (throughout
the internal pages) are well over a HALF A MILLION! This
unfortunately is putting a lot of strain on the 'Bandwidth'
allowed for the site, we currently have about 7gb of bandwidth
per month and as at Oct 30th this is at 92%. If you do
visit and see a message saying something like 'this site has
exceeded it's bandwidth allowance', please bear with it.
We will see what next month is like before we think about
investing for some more space........ or is there a sponsor out
there who wishes to invest in ShinyCapstar, providing them with
FREE ADVERTISING??
