What possesses soldiers to dress in fancy dress - and
parade around camp behind a bit of concrete?
Why do Guardsmen and Lance Corporals stock up in rotten eggs and
bags of flower - waiting for this day?
Why would anyone want to throw beer all over an Officer, and
then pick them up and throw 'them' at a lump of concrete?
why . WHY .?
Why.......... because it's 'Hanging the Brick'
that's why!
THE MARCH AROUND CAMP
The march around camp took the
form of three parts:
1 - The march from the Sergeants Mess to the Guard Room to
collect the Brick
2 - The March from the Guard Room (with the brick) to the
Officers Mess - to collect the Officers.
3 - The March from the Officers Mess to Hougoumont Farm (SP Coy
Vehicle Sheds) - to 'Hang the Brick'.
It was a valiant effort made from all junior ranks, but after
attempting to 'steal' the Brick - all they actually managed to
gain were a few bruises! Oh and they also got the pleasure
to do a bit of 'outside areas'! (see image below
for the aftermath).
THE FESTIVITIES
Unfortunately, I (the geezer with
the camera) didn't get to take any images off CSgt Dave Watts
reading out the scroll - this was due to having about three eggs
smash onto the camera lens on the march round!
Anyway, all was cleaned off and I was able to take a few photos
from 'inside' Hougoumont Farm.
